Technology continues to play a significant role in the way companies do business, and the commercial real estate industry is no different. Major commercial brokerage firms are eagerly researching avenues to take their technology infrastructure to the next level.

Industry rulers are broadening their expertise to include technology advisor items and tech accelerator programs. A few industry leaders, such as CMI, are even going as far as to market their own strategies to assist clients in overseeing their strategic investments and management of assets.

Large real estate firms are beginning to partner with accelerators, or mentors, to determine ways to use the technology to advance their business and stay ahead of competitors in the market. “I think it’s probably the biggest underlying trend that we’re seeing in the marketplace,” CRETech.com CEO Michael Beckerman said. “The brokerage firms, in particular, the big five I would say, have all now aligned themselves with either a VC accelerator [or] hired their own in-house tech talent. Brokerage firms are waking up to the opportunities that CRE tech offers them.”

Many companies, like CBRE, have created apps and other technology-based avenues to streamline certain aspects of their field. These new platforms heighten transparency, promote better decision making and streamline the sales process.

These technology breakthroughs have created a more efficient functioning system in the commercial real estate industry to outsource deals and close transactions, without eliminating the need for a broker entirely. CMI specializes in marketing and managing complex Real Estate assets in tertiary markets. Our marketing and resource capability incorporated technological enhancements early on, allowing CMI a strategic advantage over the largest firms in the industry.
